Refugee Ministry Opportunities

IRCphotoThe Karen (said kuh-REN) are a people group indigenous to Burma, but thousands of them have resided in refugee camps in Thailand for years because of persecution in Burma.  The United States is re-settling hundreds of Karen families to Dallas each year. One new ministry that is forming is the Kli-Kla market, an in-home business selling the women's woven textile products.   Contact Jeni Knighten, executive director, Hope 4 Refugees. Bhutanese refugees are mostly Hindu, but many are coming to faith in the Lord through the ministry of  Chris and Cheryl Read (First Baptist Church, Rockwall).  Examples of ministry needs are teaching people how to drive and employment assistance.  Eddie Walker and the SEGUE ministry gives high school graduates and college students opportunities to serve newly-arriving refugee families. Learn more about Bhutanese refugees

Pastor Jalil Dawood and Arabic Baptist Church serve refugees from Iraq.  They need:

  • Kitchen supplies( plates, silverware, pots, and pans.)
  • Internet-ready computers
  • Furniture
  • A mini bus or mini van to bring people to church on Sunday (on loan or a donation)
  • Cars ( anything drivable)
  • Jobs- any kind
  • Pastor Jalil says, "Please be in prayers for these needs and for the people that we minister to that they hear the Word of Lord and be saved, and may The Lord use you! Tell your friends or family members about these needs to see if they can help as well.
