Woods Chapel Baptist Church in Arlington is searching for a Family Minister

Woods Chapel Baptist Church is a Southern Baptist Convention congregation in Arlington, Texas. We are in search of a man to fill the position of Family Pastor with a focus on reaching and discipling young families in our community. A brief description of our church and its ministries can be found at woodschapel.org. We ascribe to the Baptist Faith and Message (2000).

Woods Chapel stands on Scripture and is composed of a strong fellowship of believers who love the Lord and have a heart for missions.  Our current pastor has served since 2011, and our Associate Pastor of Education and Music has served since 1993.  Our worship center has a capacity of approximately 400, with current attendance averaging 180.  Our education spaces are varied, with multiple buildings, including a new children’s and youth building completed in 2014.

In the last few years, we have experienced a decline in attendance of young families and a reduction in children and youth.  We believe for the future of Woods Chapel and the souls of those in our community, that we must place additional focus on this demographic group.

Our vision is to call a full-time Family Pastor dedicated to reaching and discipling young families in our community.  This individual will work alongside current ministry staff and with the entire Woods Chapel family to lead and coordinate in this area of ministry.

Woods Chapel –Family Pastor Character and Responsibilities

Woods Chapel subscribes to the Biblical definition of pastors as outlined in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:6-9.

The Family Pastor must have a passion for evangelizing the lost and discipling believers.  This requires a call and a vision to build a family ministry with a particular focus on young families.  The Family Pastor will have the support of the church staff and the entire church family.

The Family Pastor should have:

–        Ability to relate to young families, including parents, children, and youth, and to encourage their spiritual growth

–        Strong leadership, organizational, teaching, and training skills

–        Commitment to ongoing training – attending conferences, online training, theological education, personal study, learning from others, etc.

–        Seminary degree and 3+ years experience preferred

The following is not an exclusive list of responsibilities of the Family Pastor, but only a summary to indicate the intent of the position.  A final detailed list of responsibilities will be discussed at a later date.  All items listed are intended to facilitate the vision of building a family ministry.

o   Develop a plan in coordination with pastoral staff to include a philosophy of ministry, development of programs, and equipping of volunteers to carry it out.  This effort should result in new conversions for Christ, young families brought into the church, discipleship of Christians, etc.

o   Coordinate and lead all church activities that involve young families to encourage growth in numbers and faith.  This will include Wednesday and Sunday activities, special events, etc.

o   Maintain office hours as required to accomplish family ministry responsibilities.

o   Involvement in off-campus activities with families and youth to develop relationships with families – school activities, performances, etc.

o   Oversee the Woods Chapel Early Childhood Education Center (weekday preschool).

Woods Chapel – Desired Response

We are looking for your experience and recommendations to accomplish this goal. To submit a response, please include:

1)     A cover letter which includes:

  1. Short statement on your calling to ministry
  2. How your calling to the ministry will apply to our needs

2)     Your complete resume with references. Personal information is desired but not required.
